Welcome to Blyth Public School
Blyth Public School is a JK-8 school located in the Village of Blyth, Ontario. Our students come from the village, as well as from the surrounding area.
The African Proverb “it takes a whole village to raise a child” is displayed in the front foyer of our school, and represents our belief that student success is the result of the partnership between the home, school and community. The community has generously supported the entire staff in our mission to provide the best academic environment and learning opportunities for our students. Blyth Public School has committed and caring volunteers and a strong School Advisory Council. The Council meets once a month and supports the school through fund raising, family events and, most importantly, their knowledge of the community. We thank them for their leadership. Most recently the School Council and community have provided us with funds to provide a school-wide Planner and Homework Agenda for our students. This will improve the communication between the home and school with regards to school policies, homework, assignments, upcoming events and student behaviour.
We are all proud to be Blyth Bears. The Bear represents the strength and determination we exhibit in all our endeavors. The students work hard to achieve academically, physically and socially.
Academically, both students and staff have been working hard to improve student achievement in the areas of literacy and numeracy. Our school goals are to improve reading achievement and the students’ ability to communicate their thinking in problem-solving activities in all divisions. Through the committed effort of the Avon Maitland District School Board, our staff has received extensive training, resources and professional development to help us achieve our goals. Our EQAO results have shown steady improvement, and we are proud of our accomplishments. We will continue to work hard to improve, and thank the community for their support in meeting our goals.
Blyth students participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including band, numerous sports activities, and clubs. Our staff is committed to providing extra-curricular activities for our students, because they see it as an integral part of a child’s development. Our Students’ Council is a strong government organization that also provide many wonderful activities for our student population.
Our school motto, “Where learning never stops,” represents our commitment to educating the whole child. As part of this commitment, Blyth Public School students and staff participate in a Virtue of the Week Program. We read and learn about a virtue once a week. The students are taught how to demonstrate the virtue of the week, and are commended for their positive citizenship. We feel strongly that instilling these virtues (e.g. caring, enthusiasm, determination) assists students in developing both academically and socially.
We hope you enjoy our website. It will be updated throughout the year with our school newsletter, pictures, student work and event news. Please feel free to contact the school for more information.
